Day 1: Arrival Hanoi (Dinner at local restaurant) - FRIDAY
Your luxury holiday starts as we meet you at Hanoi airport (Noi Bai), and you’re taken directly to your hotel. Hanoi is a stylish and exciting city that retains an unique old world charm and some Asia‘s most striking colonial architecture. The lakes and parks provide pleasant and relaxing escapes from the bustle of the city, overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2: Hanoi city tour – Lao Cai (Breakfast at hotel)
Day 2 of your Vietnam discovery starts with breakfast at hotel, followed by a full day city tour starting with the Ho Chi Minh Complex, containing the mausoleum of the nation’s founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s house on stilts.  Close to this site is the One Pillar Pagoda, whose origin dates back to the foundation of Hanoi a thousand years ago. Your tour of Hanoi continues with a trip to the remarkable Temple of Literature, well known as Vietnam’s first university.

After your own lunch, you’ll enjoy a walk around the peaceful Hoan Kiem Lake and through the less peaceful Old Quarter, a bewildering maze of shopping streets and restaurants with an amazing assortment of architecture - traditional tube houses, countless pagodas, artisans’ workshops and cottages, colonial houses and modern concrete edifices.  You will see an evening performance of Hanoi's famous water puppets before having a transfer to Hanoi Railway Station for a night train to Lao Cai with your tour guide escort. Overnight on train

Day 3: Lao Cai – Bac Ha Sunday Market – Boat trip on Chay River – Sapa (Breakfast at local restaurant)
On arrival in Lao Cai, you'll be driven uphill to the colorful Sunday Market at Bac Ha. This market attracts a wide variety of ethnic minority groups including the H’mong, Dao, Phu La, La Chi and Tay peoples. They still retain their old-aged cultural traditions and are recognizably distinct from each other by their dress. The experience of this colorful congregation is unique. After the market, you'll be taken to Chay River and join a short cruise on the river if the weather permits. In the late afternoon, you head back to Sapa and check in your hotel.

Day 4: Sapa (Breakfast at hotel)

At an elevation of 1,500 meters, Sapa was once a hill resort of French administrators when the summer heat became unbearable. Getting to meet the ethnic minority people is a highlight of visiting Sapa, although their living conditions are basic.  After settling into your hotel you will take a soft trek to Cat Cat village about 3 kilometres away from town take you about 3 hours walking to visit H’Mong minority people who first lived in Vietnam in the 17th & 18th  centuries, then you’ll walk to Ham Rong mountain about 2 hours for a fabulous overview of Sapa town. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 5: Sapa – Tam Duong – Paso (Breakfast at hotel)
We continue our trip up to North West today pass the Heavens Gate – the highest road in Vietnam, where you can stop and enjoy the dramatic views from the pass.  Upon arrival in Binh Lu, if the weather permits, the car turns into a dirt road which leads to the hidden valleys inhabited by Lu and Nhang ethnic minorities. You will then arrive in Tam Duong, for lunch, after which you'll visit the local market, and see other minorities - the Black Thai and the Coin Dao. Overnight in Paso

*Today group travel by private car and stop along the way to walk into nearby minority village where you can learn their living and take photos of beautiful costumes.

Day 6: Paso – Sinho – Lai Chau (Breakfast at hotel)

Rise up early for a short walk to visit some villages of White Hmong, Black Dao or Ha Nhi minorities. You then leave Paso for Lai Chau, with a stopover at Sin Ho. The scenery on the drive up through the clouds to this remote mountain town is breathtaking. After visiting the small but colorful residents of Flower Hmong, White Hmong, and Dao Khau minorities, you come back to the main road which weaves its way through the picturesque Na river valley. You continue your Vietnam discovery trip along the Na River towards Lai Chau for overnight. Overnight in Lai Chau.

Day 7: Lai Chau – Dien Bien Phu (Breakfast at hotel)

Day 7 or your adventure holiday begins with a boat ride downstream in the Da River to visit a village of the Thai minority and hear about their daily lives by the river.  Later the boat takes you further downstream, where you meet your car and driver. The drive to Dien Bien Phu is in a picturesque mountainous area which runs along the river, passing more ethnic villages of Black Thai, White Thai, Red and White Hmong and Kho Mu minorities. 

On arrival in early afternoon, you have a tour to some of the historic sites of the town such as the Dien Bien Museum, and A1 Hill.  The latter was the shelter of the French General De Castries;  you'll also visit memorials to the Vietnamese and French soldiers who died during the fierce, historically important Dien Bien Phu battle in 1954.  Later, check in your hotel. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

Day 8 : Dien Bien Phu – Son La (Breakfast at hotel)

After breakfast, you depart Dien Bien Phu for Tuan Giao, where you get on board for a cruise on the Pa Khoang Lake, a man-made lake. You then visit a village of the Khomu minorities.  Afterwards, you continue the drive through extremely rugged countryside up the Phadin Pass.  According to local legend Pha Din means Heaven-Earth, and is the frontier between the two; it marks the border of Son La province. You'll agree that the top of the pass is the ideal place for a picnic lunch. You should arrive in the town Son La in late afternoon. Overnight in Son La.

Day 9: Son La – Hanoi (Breakfast at hotel)

This morning starts with a sobering visit to the Son La prison, where you can learn about Vietnam’s struggle against the French.  Then you'll drive through the hilly area of Moc Chau and into the beautiful valley of Mai Chau before heading back to Hanoi in the late afternoon.  You'll have the rest of the day free to refresh after your long trip in the mountains. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 10: Hanoi Departure (Breakfast at hotel)
After breakfast, you have some more free time before a transfer to Noi Bai airport for your departure flight. Trip ends at the airport.
